What is belly dance?
Belly Dance is the traditional women’s cabaret dance of the Middle East, with roots in Egypt and Turkey. The dance can be done with live or recorded music. Costuming Ranges from the two piece costume most often associated with the dance, to the elegant one piece dress with more coverage. Performances can be ambient or a complete show and commonly incorporate a variety of props: finger cymbals, cane, sword, candelabra, and veil.
What is Zeffi?
The Zeffi is the traditional wedding procession of the Middle East, where the bride and groom are led in by musicians on percussion instruments and the mizmar, a small oboe, and the dancer, dancing with the candelabra on her head in front of the couple.
What should I expect?
Performers will arrive 30 minutes before the time of the performance. They will change and set up music and props. A show normally lasts for 20-30 minutes, but can be tailored to the need. Dancers can include audience participation if desired. It is usually an effective part of the show. Musicians can play alone and with the dancer, a repertoire of traditional Middle Eastern classics.
What will the dancers and musicians wear?
Dancers will wear a one piece or two piece costume and can match the color to your theme. Musicians will wear suits.
What do I have to provide?
A secure room for performers to change and store their belongings. A bathroom should be available, but will not be acceptable for changing. Water is always appreciated. If using recorded music, the dancer needs to know which format to bring: thumb drive, ipod, etc…musicians need to know about the sound system provided or can be asked to bring one for an additional cost. Dancers need a clean stage area with a smooth surface, preferably not carpet.
